Parking at a meter can be more expensive than parking in a garage or lot, where there are also less time restrictions. Essentially, you pay for the convenience of a space on-street close to your destination. Parking on-street is in the highest demand and is also the most limited. In fact, there are 10 times as many garage and lot spots as on-street spots.

Drivers who plan to be downtown for more than 2 hours should plan on parking in a garage or lot, not on the street. On-street parking should be open and available for people who need to run errands or shop in a relatively short amount of time – under two hours.

With improved payment technology that the new meter system and the Quick Pay smartphone app provides, visiting and parking downtown is as easy as 1, 2, 3. So get in your car, take a drive, and park it. Then enjoy yourself as you visit downtown Salt Lake City!
